High Infidelity

Hamtramck's Public Pool art space has put out a call to artists for fake record albums for a show called "The Last Record Shop." The plan is to collect up a bunch of phony LPs, featuring real sleeve art for made-up bands, and stage a faux music store in the gallery, where the public can flip through the racks and buy the artworks. Check the link for details - still two months until the deadline! Meanwhile, here's what I hope will be the first of two or three records I'll be creating for the show.

Pie in the sky

For a summer solstice event at Hamtramck art space Popps Packing, a music/performance/art show inspired by both Sun Ra and Carl Sagan, I took a quote of Sagan's from the original "Cosmos" series to its literal conclusion. I baked four apple pies, decorated them with the quote, and wrote and printed a '70s-style recipe card for Apple Pie a la Sagan. Here's a photo of the resulting "art/pie piece," along with the recipe - cut out and keep! (Or contact me about getting your own hard copy, ready for your recipe index file.)

More for Metro Times

The latest: A new spot illo for a story on how to get stoned the smart way (well, relatively smart...), plus a new Optik Birmingham ad, both in MT's Summer Guide issue this week.
