One for the art majors

I sketched this a dozen times on various scraps of paper before finally sitting down, finding a reference and finishing it. This watercolor version was made for the 2011 Actual Size show now on display at the Whitdel Arts gallery in Detroit.

I love him and this :) they are awesome in very complementary ways. Also one of my recent fave kids' books is about his work: Masterpiece by Elise Broach - seriously fun - sort of more fantastical story for fans of "From the Mixed-Up Files..."

Speaking of art history, here's an illustration I did for the in-house volunteer docent scheduling web page at the Detroit Institute of Arts. When in Detroit, be sure to visit the Detroit Industry murals by Diego Rivera. If you're really lucky, I'll be there to tell you all about them!
